The State of Arkansas.
The capitol is Little Rock, which has a pretty funny name but is a lovely place to visit. The city is located along the southern banks of the Arkansas River and derives its name from a rock formation named in French: La Petite Roche. It is thought this was by the French explorer Jean-Baptiste Bénard de la Harpe in the 1720s and translates to Little Rock.
Arkansas's earliest industries were fur trading and agriculture using the fertile lands near the Mississippi river. Today not many people are still employed by the agriculture industry due to the impact of machines and scale using larger fields. However it remains a major part of the state's economy. Forestry also remains strong in the Arkansas, the timberlands produce large quantities of softwood used for basic house building and wide ranges of furniture.
Tourism is also very important to the state, with the official nickname "The Natural State" developed by the advertisers in 70s and still used. The state maintains 52 state parks for locals and foreigners to enjoy. Many cities also hold festivals, which draw tourists to Arkansas culture.
